the great sort

Thursday, October 14. 2010
"the great sort" at some point is gonna have to happen. At some point towards the end of 2011 or early 2012 I'll have a new address in munich and I dont want to cart all my rubbish across town with me. A complete sort out has been on my mind for a while, but really need to think about it. Then I came across this today

Nine Quick Tips to Identify Clutter

maybe I'll just to the first sweep of the flat using rule 1 & 2

1. Does this thing work?
2. Would I replace it if it were broken or lost?

Then again, I might just hoard it all a bit longer

(guilty admission : I still have 2 boxes of stuff that came with me from the UK that have never been unpacked!)

the last 45 seconds

Thursday, April 29. 2010
So EHC München won the playoffs!!! I was there for game 3 in schwennigen and had a blast. Getting up for work the next morning wasnt the easiest but it was still way too much fun.

heres a video of the last 45 seconds, see if you can see me in the top right hand corner of the munich fans?

Now its money time. Can EHC München get enough sponsorship together to go up and play in the DEL?

minus the scar

Monday, March 2. 2009
I sat here doing some paperwork for some new subcompany id card. I digged around at home to find a passport sized photo and found an old one I guess from around july 2002. Then I realised, its was the last passport photo without a big scar running across my head.

Theres also a level of security stuff to go through - could I tell them where I lived for the past 10 years?? I struggled even to work out when I moved in Munich...Luckily a phone call home managed to piece to all together.

On the scar thing, was on the train to the ice hockey last week minding my own buisness(ipod plugged in) when someone tapped my on the shoulder. It was a guy called mario who was doing photographs of people on the underground for his portfolio - he thought my scar was cool. He wanted to know the story, and asked if he could have my picture. I told him the story but denied him the picture (for now). I dont do posed pictures, catch me with a zoom lense across a crowded bar - fine. But being the subject, no thanks.

the weekend of sport

Monday, February 9. 2009
its been a great weekend of sport for me.

Friday - EHC München v Schwenningen Wild Wings - Munich Win 4-2!
Saturday - England v Italy & Ireland v France
Sunday - Scotland v Wales - Wales win 26 to 13

EHCs game on friday was dull dull dull, until we got into the 3rd. Then both teams who were at 2-2 realised they had to pick up the game. Munichs 3rd goal had the schwenningen goalie, gutted. He missed it and really couldnt move for the dispair. Maybe me shouting "Tee Beutel" very loudly had nothing to do with it...

Saturdays rugby was intresting to watch as a complete neutral in the pub, great atmosphere for the Ireland v France game with Ireland the deserved winners.

Sundays game had my full attention. Wales were the obvious more dominant side - David Sole in the telegraph even used the word "bully" to describe their welsh strength. The 2nd half of wales, was just as skilled, but they seemed to lack organisation when Martyn Williams got sin binned. (was anybody left on the picture with Captaincy experience).

So next weekend its Wales v England in Cardiff. They've delayed naming the squad to give Shane Williams, Gavin Henson & Ryan Jones the most time possible to recover from injuries - lets see what they start with.

apple date confirmed

Tuesday, December 2. 2008
Apple have confirmed the opening date as this saturday. I'm in town visiting the christmas markets with my visitors, so I wont be queuing up with the massives who want one of the free tshirts...

Its gonna be intresting to see how the munich public react to the Apple store, it will be a very american retail experience right slap bang in the center of munich. But maybe its gonna be more intresting to watch how the other apple retailers handle the competition.

the blue and white

Saturday, November 29. 2008

Apple have done really well with the styling of the pre-launch cover of the apple store in Munich. Blue Ipod Nanos with white gaps, very tastefully looking like a Bavarian flag

oktoberfest day #1

Tuesday, September 23. 2008
For most people the wiesn starts on Saturday - for me it starts on monday. After a manic weekend of building a party, and then helping with a reservation for 240 people on sunday, last night was the first chance to sit down and enjoy a quiet beer with friends in Fischer Vroni.

I carried on the tradition of buying the maß for each year I've been at the wiesn, I've got seven of these things up on my shelves now.

To go with the lederhosen, I bought some new shoes. Very nice, very traditional - but after one day of wearing them - one of the metal hooks for the laces has broken. Time for them to go back. More things are planned for the wiesn over the next few days. More posts will be appearing soon!

oktoberfest 2008

Monday, September 15. 2008
With only a few days until oktoberfest starts all over again I had been lacking the wiesn spirit. This years oktoberfest just wasnt feeling right. I got no private reservation for the middle weekend, work was just stacking up. All in all the "stimmung war weg".

That was until last night. A few beers with some good friends, and their out of town friends and I remembered what a fun time this oktoberfest thing can be. So roll out the beer, the roast chicken, breezn & obazda. Its wiesn time in munich, and time to party.

I've also been invited by a supplier to their evening, with a hotel in town. I havent taken the hotel in town, its too dangerous. I can see the scenario now, waking up in my flat having forgotten I had a hotel room down town with all my stuff in it.

blogging may get a bit dodgy during the wiesn, normal service will be resume shortly

the flight curve of a stone

Friday, August 1. 2008
Got a phone call from my lawyer on Tuesday afternoon with an update of the situation in the courtcase.

The SZ, printed this Tuesday night for Wednesdays edition

This is a different version from what I heard from my lawyers. We spoke on thursday, and concluded that the SZ article is based upon the situation before I got the phone call. Next court date 12th August - lets see how it goes from there.

some highlights of the past 14 days

Wednesday, July 16. 2008
Well, I was in London. I got to see AvenueQ. I've had the soundtrack for ages thanks to Helen, and wanted to see it for a while. Its not really appropriate for young children. Just think adult version of the muppets or sesame street. I got to eat breakfast standing in the middle of the Millenium Bridge on the Thames, just watching the world go buy. Caught up with Kirk for Thai dinner somewhere near CharringCross.

Went to Jeans July 4th party, which was fab. Was great to see a lot of old friends, and meet some new canadians. Theres nothing like starting a discussion about hockey night in canada and then leaving the room. They were still at it 20 minutes later when I stuck my head around the door.

I bought some PG Tips(to replenish supplies), with a Monkey teatowel in each box. Got a few new tshirts and did a massive shopin boots. Had to laugh, I took jeans boots card. After sticking all the points on it, the assistant offered me a voucher for 2 quid off hair care products - like I really need hair care products. I gave the voucher to jean. I should know better from some of my office work about "ticket at till", borrowing other peoples cards and inheriting their shopping profile.

Spent sunday afternoon watching the Julie the drag queen at Molly moggs with Helen and crew.

Got back to munich Monday, and my PC has started making funny noises.

Life in the office is back to full on stress (hence the lack of blogging)

In the mean time, the daily mail think they have found banksy - Graffiti artist Bansky unmasked, the BBC say maybe not - Paper 'reveals Banksy's identity'. One of the new sites I've got in my Live Bookmarks is WebUrbanist. They started an 8 parter today - Who is Banksy?, but what caught my eye before that was their article about Geek Art.

EHC München have announced their opening games in the pokal (the cup) against Ingolstadt and Straubing.

Toytown is still being toytown

Spent saturday taking some pics in teh rain around munich at CSD. Jurgen and Co and their lorry in the procession.

And thats it I think. In between the work, I'm trying to work out what to do with my PC. Its 3 years old now, and getting ready for the big PC space in the sky (after I take a big drill to the hard disk). I'm tempted to go with an imac, comparing for what I can get from Dell etc for the same money. Hmm its very tempting.

oh one last thing. the iphone 3G has launched here on tmobile. I'm stuck in a contract with o2 until July 2009.

bike racing at olympia park

Sunday, June 29. 2008
I got asked to head up to the olympia park in munich to take some pictures of the bike racing. Colleagues of mine were taking park in a 24 hour race around the park(corratec 24h-race im Olympiapark). Took some nice pics, but it was hard finding my colleagues racing.. and I wasnt hanging around for the full 24 hours

My pics are here - Corratec 24 hour race Munich. I think maybe this is a colleague of mine, I'll ask him tomorrow. It was fun doing another sport, certainly I'd like to take more pictures at some an event again, just can we have a bit cooler weather please - for the riders and the photographers!
