This is a bass clef



Up until joining the TT Orchestra - I've always read Bb treble clef music for the euphonium. Problem now is that most euph parts for orchestra are written in C and bass clef. So, not only do I get to read a clef I'm not very familiar with - I get to tranpose everything up 2 as I go. Joy joy joy :-) This blog entry explains some of the reasons why.

Actually right now for me it isnt working. I struggle all the way through and play maybe the first 3 differing notes before I have to stop and work out what comes next - not good when trying to sight read.

So, next steps :-)

Remember the 2 phrases for the notes - All cows eat grass / Good boys do fine always (actually I prefer the american Grizzly bears dont fly aeroplanes)

Get a Euphonium Fingering Chart for bass clef

Get some of the simple learn to play books but written in bass clef (got tune a day plus another one)

the orchestra sauna

Less than 8 weeks after renting the euphonium, I found myself playing in a TT Orchestra & Choir concert last night. I reckon its been at least 10 years since I last played. Really enjoyed it - except for the heat. Dressed in black in a room with 20+ other musicians, and an audience of 80+ when Munich has finally found its summer heat was no fun. I got through a litre of water during the concert and a few litres of beer afterwards to help me rehydrate grin

The orchestra programme last night was made up of

Elgar - Pomp & Circumstance March No. 4
Elgar - Variations 1 to 9
Mozart - Overture to the Magic Flute
Aram Khachaturian - Sabre Dance
Leonard Bernstein - West Side Story Selection

There were a few shaky moments throughout but everyone kept going and heading in the same direction. I was doing ok until about half way through WSS, I just wanted us to take a break a the next stopping point - but we didnt get the chance.

Thats it for now, the orchestra is taking a rehersal break for a few weeks and theres some planning to be done for christmas performances.
